What is a DMR?

A DMR (Designated Marksman Rifle) is a type of sniper rifle that is designed to be used by military personnel in order to provide accurate long-range fire support to infantry units.

These rifles are typically chambered for intermediate cartridges such as the 7.62x51mm NATO or 6.5mm Grendel, and are equipped with features such as high-power optics and bipods to help facilitate accurate shooting at long range.

Tactical use of DMRs

DMRs are typically used in a support role, where the shooter is tasked with engaging enemy targets at long range while their fellow infantry soldiers close in on the enemy's position. This makes DMRs well suited for engagements at ranges of 400-600 meters, which is beyond the effective range of most small arms.

Our favourite DMRs

The most popular DMRs in use are the JG G39, Barrett M82A1. The larger, longer sniper rifles is most popular for their ability to targets at long range. The medium sized rifles are able to do this too, but their more compact size means that their can also be used for close-quarter engagements.

A good example of this is the JG G39, which is often used by police and military snipers in CQB situations.

The JG G39 is a gas operated, semi-automatic sniper rifle that is chambered for the 7.62x51mm NATO round. It has a 20 inch barrel and a magazine capacity of 10 rounds.

The JG G39 is capable of delivering accurate fire at long range, but it also has the ability to be used in close quarter situations. It often used by police and military snipers in CQB situations because of its compact size and light weight.

The Barrett M82A1 is a gas operated, semi-automatic sniper rifle that is chambered for the .50 BMG round. It has a 29 inch barrel and a magazine capacity of 10 rounds. The Barrett M82A1 is very popular for its long range capabilities, but its long barrel means that it tends not to be used for close quarter situations.
